By quantity
For a per-carton handling charge, where a cheap box and an expensive one cost the same to move.

For sea and road freight. Allocating a container of heavy, cheap goods by value overstates the expensive lines permanently.

Costing methods
Four methods, chosen per item
- Moving average — the running average most trading businesses expect.
- Weighted average — averaged across the period rather than each receipt.
- FIFO — oldest stock consumed first, which matches how most warehouses physically work.
- LIFO — where you need it, on the items that need it.
- The method is set per item, not per company, so one catalogue can hold both.
The method freezes once stock has moved — deliberately
Cost layers are not stored; they are rebuilt by replaying the whole movement history under the item's current method. Changing it after the fact would silently re-value every past transaction and leave your stock valuation disagreeing with your ledger. Zeyto refuses, and tells you to create a new item instead. It is the kind of guard rail you only appreciate the day somebody tries it.

Straight answers
Can I add freight after the goods have already been received?
Yes. Landed cost is entered on the purchase invoice, which typically arrives after the goods receipt, and it is allocated back over the received lines.
Does allocating by weight need me to maintain weights?
Yes — gross weight or volume is held on the item. If a targeted item is missing the figure, Zeyto refuses to guess rather than quietly falling back to value and giving you a number you would have trusted.
Can different items use different costing methods?
Yes. The method is a property of the item, so a business can run moving average on fast-moving consumables and FIFO on serialised goods in the same catalogue.
